February is American Heart Month

Show your love for
the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail
on Saturday, February 22, 2020 -
it will do your heart good!

We love all of our talented volunteers, and 2020 has started off great with  “snowbirds” lending an extra hand.

Susan Holloway has been helping by monitoring and cleaning out the Purple Martin houses and Bluebird boxes along the Trail as well as clearing up several of the National Wildlife Federation certified gardens.
David Flanagan has been helping with repairs on the Trailhouse stairs, our educational gopher tortoise enclosure, picnic benches, parking lot signs and much more!
Louise Hunt has spent much time making new signs for the trail and installing them on sturdy frames.

Practicing yoga in an open setting can deepen your awareness of and the connection to nature, say yoga experts. Slow your pace, deepen your breath, and enjoy the world around you.
Our blissful Sunrise Yoga starts at 7:00 a.m. and lets us enjoy the beauty of sunrise over the lake as we are led through calming, reflective poses that are suitable for any experience level. All you need to bring is your mat and your enthusiasm. (No charge)

Enjoy heart-healthy continental breakfast

on the Trailhouse porch at 8:00 a.m. before heading out for trail work.  (contributions to the breakfast table are welcome but not required)
Trailday - Scrub-Jay breeding season is fast approachingEvery year we manually help by pruning back the scrub oaks to an average height of  5-7 feet.  This is the ideal height in which the Florida Scrub-Jays like to make their nests.

Things to bring to Saturday's Trailday, 8:00 am - 11:00 am, are gloves, hat, pruning shears, loppers, small saw (folding works well), refillable water bottle.

We have a limited supply of tools to share so don’t worry if you don’t have your own.

Watch for more on the ongoing, behind the scenes of The Florida Scrub-Jay Trail, and an update from John Thomton on the results of the Clermont Christmas Bird Count in upcoming newsletters.
