January 25, 2014 Trailday Newsletter
Hello Trailblazers!

We certainly have had an up and down weather pattern so far this January. The Scrub-Jays have been very active despite the strange dip in temperatures. They have been pretty consistent about being up and around searching for acorns or on the warm days grasshoppers and lizards.

We have had wonderful guests visit the Trail from all around the country and even from Canada and England making it for a very good first quarter. Most of the visitors have had the good fortune of experiencing the Florida Scrub-Jay and well as several other birds they were looking for on their life lists so this is a good thing. They have been fascinated with the Eagle Scout Projects that have been executed and have encouraged more.

John Thomton organized the very successful 2nd Annual Clermont Christmas Bird Count on January 3rd and we will have more details of that in the e-newsletter ahead...watch for it!

Trailday information

Our monthly Trailday on Saturday, January 25th from 8am-11am.

With the weather expected to be a bit chilly in the early am we have decided to skip our 7am yoga and begin at 8am with our usual Trail clean up. With the onset of nesting it is best that we bring gloves and clippers/loppers to help clear around the trees to help with the habitat that the jays are accustomed to....30% open sandy soil and short scrubby trees 3-5' tall.
