In the continuing Spring Garden Series at B.B. Brown's Gardens, Lei Lani Davis will conduct two separate Herb workshops designed for beginners through advanced gardeners. These workshops are designed to be taken individually or together.

Planting and Propagating Herbs and Spices

PLANTING AND PROPAGATING HERBS AND SPICES
APRIL 14, 2012   10AM - 2PM

Join Lei Lani Davis during this hands-on workshop, held Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 10am-2pm at B.B.Brown's Gardens in Clermont. The workshop is designed for levels of beginner to intermediate experience. Beginning with general information about herbs and what herbs grow best in which temperatures, soil and PH, we will quickly move into learning how and when to sow seeds properly for success. Try your hand at transplanting bare root and "plug" transplants as well as working with "cuttings"…learn how to decide which method of propagation is best for a particular type of plant, and what time of year is best for propagation. Lei Lani will demonstrate simple layering and the proper way to divide plants.

Cost:  $40.00 includes handouts and materials for completed workshop projects to take home.

Planting and Propagating Herbs and Spices

ADVANCED HERB WORKSHOP
APRIL 15, 2012   10AM - 2PM

Join Lei Lani Davis during this hands-on workshop, held April 15, 2012 from 10am-2pm at B.B.Brown's Gardens in Clermont. The workshop is designed for levels of intermediate to advanced. Beginning with a brief refresher we quickly move into more in depth on preserving herbs and the equipment and tools that she has found useful over years of trial and error. A variety of herbal vinegars will be available to sample with several tasty foods allowing you to decide which your favorite is before venturing into making one of your very own herbal vinegar delights.

The afternoon session will focus on herbal oils, salves and lotions as you watch how to make your own fresh distilled water using fragrant herbs from your own back yard, or containers, and then how to make oil and lotion from that

Having personally grown various flowers, herbs and vegetables in various Florida heat zones for over 35 years, Lei Lani knows the ins and outs of a successful growing season. She has worked in every aspect of growing from a genetic technician for the Ball Seed Company to the University of Florida Research and Education Center and overseeing food safety, pest and plant management for a local hydroponic farm. Lei Lani currently owns and operates her own nursery "Heavenly Flower".
