Milkweed family.

Flowers from February to October.

A perennial herb that grows to 2 feet or more with rough stems and mostly alternate leaves but no milky sap. Has orange to reddish flowers in terminal clusters.

Butterfly Weed is found throughout Florida with some exceptions for the Panhandle,
Central and South Florida.

This milkweed is also called "Pleurisy-root" because Indians chewed its roots to treat pleurisy and other ailments. Its roots,
however, are poisonous.
