Daisy
or sunflower family.
Flowers from August to October.
A perennial
shrub that grows to 3 feet or more with thin or slender leaves.
Flower heads are purple to pink-purple and thistle-like, each
composed of many (usually five) tubular disk flowers. Flowering
begins at the top of the stem and progresses downward. This
is especially evident in the blooms of this blazing star. The
flower heads are not one-sided as are the blooms of Liatris
pauciflora.
Found throughout most of Florida. |
