"Polyphemus Moth ( Saturniidae Antheraea polyphemus )"
Dr. Marc Minno found the moth egg on May 9th during a BioBlitz event at the Scrub-jay Trail.
Marc then managed to rear it the whole way through to hatching on July 17th.
This beautiful adult male was then released.   -    photo: Marc Minno 2020

July is National Ice Cream Month!

And trail maintenance can be a lot more inviting when you know you get ice cream when you're done.

Not having enough fun yet this summer? Here is another opportunity - help the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail and feel nice and cool as you sink your teeth into that Baskin Robbins ice cream cone!

Just be one of the first ten people to RSVP for the Saturday, July 25, 2020, Trailday and - this is the important part - show up and help out on the trail from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. to get a $5.00 Baskin Robbins gift card!

At Saturday’s trail maintenance, we will work on clearing the area around the Bald Cypress trees we planted in April and checking their growth.

In partnership with
Cherrylake, the Outside 2020 Sustainable Landscape Collaborative, and 1000 Trees for 1000 Years, we planted 200 Bald Cypress trees as part of our lakefront restoration project.
These trees should be reaching 20 ft. within the next four years, and we are so excited that many of them will thrive and provide environmental benefits for a 1000 years to come.

In just a few years you can come back and show off what you helped create and maintain along our shoreline and the cypress dome.

Bring gloves, hat, pruning shears, and a refillable water bottle, and wear closed-toed shoes.

Sign up now for the August 8 BioBlitz Nature Walk
with Dr. Marc Minno.
