Trailday June 23, 2018
Great American Campout Day
Saturday, June 23, 2018

Of course, camping isn't for everyone!

These are actual comments left on U.S. Forest Service registration sheets and comment cards by backpackers completing wilderness camping trips:

  • A small deer came into my camp and stole my bag of pickles. Is there a way I can get reimbursed? Please call.
  • Escalators would help on steep uphill sections.
  • Instead of a permit system or regulations, the Forest Service needs to reduce worldwide population growth to limit the number of visitors to wilderness.
  • Trails need to be wider so people can walk while holding hands.
  • Found a smoldering cigarette left by a horse.
  • Trails need to be reconstructed. Please avoid building trails that go uphill.
  • Too many bugs and leeches and spiders and spider webs. Please spray the wilderness to rid the area of these pests.
  • Please pave the trails so they can be plowed of snow in the winter.
  • Chairlifts need to be in some places so that we can get to wonderful views without having to hike to them.
  • The coyotes made too much noise last night and kept me awake. Please eradicate these annoying animals.
  • Reflectors need to be placed on trees every 50 feet so people can hike at night with flashlights.
  • Need more signs to keep area pristine.
  • A McDonald's would be nice at the trail head.
  • The places where trails do not exist are not well marked.
  • Too many rocks in the mountains.

Even if you can't camp out,
you can say Hello to Summer
by enjoying the great outdoors
at the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail!

Need s'more reasons to head out to
the Trail on Saturday?

How about yoga, birding,
on-the-porch breakfast,
and trail work ("trail fun" is more like it!)?

Is sleeping in tents too in-tents for you?
Relax with some early-morning yoga beginning at 7:00 a.m.!
Relax and listen to the sounds of nature as we are led through calming, reflective poses that are suitable for any experience level. All you need to bring is your mat and your enthusiasm. (No charge)

John Thomton will be birding from 8:30-10:00 a.m. If you want to see birds and actually find out more about them, don't miss the opportunity to join John and his family for a Florida Scrub-Jay Trail birdwalk.

Trail Fun!

From 8:30 - 11:00 a.m.
we weed and trim
and laugh and discover.
We are up to our ears in
pure nature, doing what we
can to preserve
this special habitat.
Please bring loppers, hand pruners, and gloves if you have them. If not, we have limited availability of equipment to loan for the event. Everyone should wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Bring your water bottle - we will supply plenty of cold water to refill your bottle.

The Florida Scrub-Jay Trail is dedicated
to the cause of protecting the
Florida Scrub-Jay from extinction
while supporting our children as they
explore our great Florida outdoors -
maybe even by camping in their own
backyards.
