For over 3500 years, Labyrinths have been a source of reflection and insight for people all over the world. They appear in North and South America, Africa, Europe, Scandinavia and in the great Gothic cathedrals of France in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
Melinda Jay Miller, author of "Shamanic Gardening" and her students have installed a Labyrinth at the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail, and invite all who wish to experience the power of this ancient activity. She will be offering a 2 hour workshop on the history, benefits and creation of the Labyrinth on March 25 at the Trail from 9:00am to 11:00am.
Research conducted at the Harvard Medical School has found that focused walking meditation has long term benefits, including lower blood pressure and breathing rates, reduced chronic pain and improved fertility. Walking the Labyrinth is among the simplest forms of focused walking meditation and the health benefits have lead hundreds of hospitals, health care facilities and spas to install Labyrinths in recent years.
The Labyrinth is not a maze and has no dead ends. It is a circular path leading to the center where one should let go or release apprehensions and daily stress. The center is a place to pause, reflect and receive insight. Exiting on the same path gives you a sense of action and renewal.
The Labyrinth class will take place at the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail,
11490 Monte Vista Road in Clermont.
