a number #1 birding destination.
Join John Thomton, as he shares his knowledge of birds, binoculars and tricks of
the trade in Lake County on The Florida Scrub-Jay Trail.
This beginner Birding Workshop will cover the basics of identification of species through their silhouettes, flight patterns and their beaks. Get a basic training and education practicing the proper use of binoculars and learn the basics of birding with your I-Pod. Sight is not everything when it comes to birding and John will touch on some basic identification that can help you when you hear the bird but can not see it! John's quiet demeanor and astute ear to his surroundings often gives him the nickname "Bird Whisperer."
As an avid birder, with a particular fondness for corvids, John assists in the restoration of the scrub habitat and developing and maintaining the bird list at the Trailhead, which currently consists of 89 recorded species. The diverse habitat ranges from upland sandhill/scrub to lakefront and marsh communities, offering the opportunity to identify birds from scrub-jays to snowy egrets. Whether this is your first time birding or you would like to spend some time with an expert and pick up some new tricks of the trade, this is our #1 workshop for beginners.
Originally from Chicago, John now enjoys Florida's diverse and abundant birdlife. He lives in Orlando with his wife Becky.
