January 24, 2009 Trailday Newsletter
Hello Trailblazers!

Just a quick reminder about tomorrow's Trailday. The weather's going to be perfect, and we have a special guest presentation. We hope you all had a great holiday season and join us in looking forward to a very prosperous and peaceful new year.

Birding Adventures featuring the Scrub-jay
Birding Adventures

The "Birding Adventures" show is now edited and looking good. We don't know the exact February air date yet, but we'll pass that along as soon as we know. It also has been playing daily at the Space Coast Birding Festival, in Titusville.

The Scrub-Jay Trail birds were absolutely fabulous!
The Birding Festival is going well and we pass along special thanks to those of you who are helping out manning the Florida Scrub-Jay Trail / Lake County Tourism booth.

Into the 21st Century

The Scrub-Jay Consortium is now the proud owner of a brand new Laptop computer.
That puts us just one step closer to Power Point presentations, which nudges us into the 21st Century.

We now need a video projector, and we'll be set. If you, or anyone you know is able to donate one, we sure would appreciate it. We're going to miss the old Kodak slide projector. Sigh.... Funny, many of the children we present to look at our equipment and ask what's that?!

New Scrub-Jay Trail Brochures

The new Scrub-Jay Trail brochures are complete. We're really proud of the way they look, as we're sure you'll agree.
Special thanks to David Mazurek and Sandra Groeneveld of Kalimera Design Company, Inc.
for their untiring patience and artistic excellence. Please feel free to share these brochures with birding friends and associates of yours. We have them at the Scrub-Jay Trailhouse.

Activities at the Trail

With a break in the cold weather this weekend., we now have a great opportunity to get out in the sunshine and stretch our muscles. We're looking at temperatures in the 70's this Saturday! There’s a lot to do, and it would be great to have a big crowd to handle it:

Clearing and Planting
Where 100 trees were planted last month, we would like to continue clearing and planting. We have 500 new trees waiting to go in, so there’s plenty to keep us busy.

Chainsaws
We also need a chainsaw gang to trim the citrus trees down to nesting size. They’re too large for the scrub-jays to comfortably nest in, so by trimming them down, we have a better chance for them to nest in phase 2. Anyone who owns a chainsaw is encouraged to bring it and join in on the buzz.

Also, please bring gloves, shovels and rakes if you have them. Looking forward to seeing you all again. The scrub-jays have been very active as we approach the breeding season. I’m sure they’ll be watching over the good work you all will be doing.

Please RSVP so we know how much food we’ll need, and as usual, you are invited to contribute to the food table.

RSVP at   info@scrubjaytrail.org   or   352-429-5566
